Lightweight Easel and Tripod Painting Kit

This Painting Kit holds the panel/canvas on the legs and centerpost of the tripod. The mixing shelf accomodates a standard Masterson 12" x 16" palette. The kit can support panels up to 20" in height and larger if an adaptor is used. The kit uses ArtEscape tripods or most tripods provided by the customer.

Tray for Storing Artist's Oil Paints
$

$

Tray for Storing Artist's Oil Paints

The  acrylic tray holds the oil paints during a painting session and leftover paint is stored in the freezer at night. The cold greatly retards the drying out of the paints. Painting can continue even weeks later with no skin forming on the paints.  This saves money by avoiding wasted paint that has dried out

Umbrellas for Painting Outdoors

Umbrellas for Painting Outdoors

ArtEscape offers three types of umbrellas and two extension shafts. These new umbrella systems are lighter weight than anything else on the market by 30%. The extension pole accommodates three different types of umbrellas. The new clamp mechanism is compact, light weight, strong and secures the umbrella at  any angle with just one clamping knob. Which umbrella is best depends on personal preference and painting conditions. The elbowed shaft version can accept all three umbrella types. The most versatile approach is to have multiple umbrellas to adapt to specific conditions.

Elbowed Shaft Umbrella

$

Elbowed Extension with 43" White Umbrella

The white umbrella provides a moderate attenuation of the sunlight by 4X. This reduces glare and provides more light than the black umbrellas for easier discrimination of colors on the palette and painting.  The elbowed extension is especially desireable in early morning and late afternoon when the sun is close to the horizon. The elbow allows interception of the suns rays by the umbrella without requiring the extension tube to be at a large angle where it can interfere with other painters or hikers. The pochade box shown is the model with sliding shelves and brush rack accessory

Advantage of Umbrella Elbow

Advantage of Umbrella Elbow

The shelves of pochade boxes prevent umbrella support poles from reaching the desired angle – the straight shaft on the left cannot shade both the mixing area and the panel – the elbow shown on the right angles around the box to provide the needed shade

ArtEscape Lights:

ArtEscape lights feature variable color temperature and intensity and provide mounting mechanisms to adapt to a wide range of panel/canvas sizes. The technology has been adapted to two primary uses: compact, light weight, easily transportable lights for plein air,  classroom and smaller studio use and larger lights designed for permanent installation in studios. These lights are described further in following charts.

Portable Easel LED Lighting System

This Compact System has adjustable intensity and color temperature. The universal mount attaches to any studio easel or pochade box. The LED lights provide uniform illumination for canvases and panels up to 16" x 20". It is desireable for late afternoon plein air painting, sunsets and nocturnes or in studios and in poorly lit studios and classrooms. The lighting system weighs less than 1 lb and only weighs 1.2 lbs with the carrying case. It fits in the palm of the hand and stores easily in a plein air backpack or carrying case. It is also  useful for continuing plein air paintings in your hotel when traveling. The included battery weighs less than 0.6 lbs and will power the lights for 4 - 6 hours on a single charge. An optional 10' USB extension cord will allow the lights to be powered without the battery using wall plug power.

The standard clamp fits most easels and pochade boxes. Adaptors cost from $10 - $25 for some pochade boxes such as the STRADA or the Artwork Essentials Classic Series. See Blog part of website for more information on adaptors.

Some Uses of Standard Lighting System

$

 Uses of Standard Lighting System

In addition to painting nocturnes and in studios with poor lighting, the lighting system can augment natural lighting as the sun sets and can provide illumination of the correct intensity and color temperature for continuing a painting started in plein air in the hotel room. Similarly, a painting started in a classroom with natural cool lighting can be continued in the studio with light matching the classroom light in color temperature.

The Dual Use lights are a perfect solution for artists who want an affordable lighting capability that can be used both in the studio and for plein air painting. The studio light bars can be 24" or 36" wide and are powered by a 24 Volt power supply connected to a wall plug. The plein air light bar is 10" wide, is powered by a 12 Volt battery, and the lights fit in a small case  weighing less than 1.4 lb.

Panel Clamps

These clamps are lightweight and strong. The two tabs on each clamp firmly hold the panel or stretched canvas with the minimum obscuration of the painting surface. As shown in the photo on the left they hold a 1.5" thick canvas. When rotated 180 degrees, they hold a 1" thick canvas. The photo on the top right shows a smaller clamp for 3/16" panels or 3/4" canvases when rotated.
